The History of Classic Car Mechanic

eric.jpg

"My wife Ingrid tells me cars are the third person in our marriage since if I'm not driving, repairing or restoring them, I'm obsessing about them online or at shows. I reckon I'm lucky that I'm able to make a living from something I'm so passionate about.

When I started Classic Car Mechanic in Bordon, Hampshire,

I wanted to ensure that I developed a company I'd be happy to entrust my vehicle to. Therefore as well as my technical expertise you will also be treated to good old fashioned ‘Classic’ values like honesty and transparency. This means you will never have

work done on your car that is not necessary or that you haven't approved. And I can sleep at night."

Classic Car Mechanic grew out of a lifelong passion for fixing cars and motorbikes. Eric has his dad to thank for his passion for cars, he would take Eric up to Hyde Park to watch the London to Brighton Classic Car run and at 8 he talked him through fixing the family lawn mower. Most weekends he worked with his dad keeping the family cars on the road, Eric learnt a lot quickly. The bug bit. It is what he has enjoyed doing ever since.

As a 16 year old apprentice mechanic in the army he learnt the science, engineering and theory of how engines, transmissions and all the other parts that make up a vehicle work.

He had access to an extraordinary range of equipment. His spare time was spent restoring a Honda CB 250 motorbike which is very collectible now, and even an old Bedford 53 seater coach.

Eric served as an engineer in the British army for 17 years before he went into the insurance business working in engineering insurance where he stayed until retirement.

Eric has lived in and has been repairing cars in Bordon for 30 years and after early retirement he started Classic Car Mechanic from his workshop at home in October 2016, planning to work by himself restoring his own projects. The small business rapidly grew and in January 2020 the newly formed limited company moved into a unit at the Passfield Mill Business Park just outside Liphook. The philosophy of the business has always been Modern Technology with Old Fashioned Values.

The company has a reputation for passion, reliability and looking after their customers cars as if they are their own. Eric said

“Classic Car Mechanic is much more than a business to me. Tailoring my expertise to service your needs feels like such a privilege since you are allowing me to indulge my passion for all things automotive.

Whether I have painstakingly restored your classic car or got your modern car back on the road for daily usage safely, quickly and to your budget, you will feel confident that you have received a professional service from a skilled, trustworthy mechanic with classic values. “
The company now employs a team of 8 full time qualified engineers, an apprentice who is studying heritage engineering and a part time students in the workshop but the philosophy of the business remains the same.

â€‹“Being able to renew something that’s run down and worn out and get it running again safely is amazing. Even better if it is something I have never worked on. I love the process of understanding how cars work - modern or classic - and working out why they have gone wrong. Just indulging myself through my business really. There aren't many people who get to do that.

When I started Classic Car Mechanic in Bordon, I wanted to ensure that I developed a company I'd be happy to entrust my vehicle to. Therefore as well as my technical expertise you will also be treated to good old fashioned ‘Classic’ values like honesty and transparency. This means you will never have

work done on your car that is not necessary or that you haven't approved. And I can sleep at night.

Always putting safety first, I will tailor a solution to your needs:

  • Your time frame, your budget, collecting and/or delivering if required where ever you live.

  • Over 40 years of knowledge and experience, and continuous professional development ensures I will apply the latest technology and repair techniques to your vehicle.

It would be my pleasure to use my passion and expertise to show you that professional, trustworthy, and competitively priced motoring support is still possible these days.
